5 Things to Do When You’re Stuck on a Rainy Day

What better time to spend a rainy day weekend than to tuck in under the covers!

For some, a rainy day means getting stuck at home with nothing else to do.

The good news is, there are ways to make a rainy day productive—even meaningful. Here are five ways to make it so:

Read a book

Oppss, happy reacts only! Yes, a rainy day is the perfect time to catch up on your reading. Why do you have to read, you say?

Studies have shown that we actually learn better when we read. Nacha-challenge ang ating isipan as we try to understand the text being read. If you are reading a story, your mind starts imagining it. In this way, mas lumalawak ang kakayanan mong umintindi ng marami pang mga bagay, especially abstract concepts.

reading in bed on a rainy day

So if you want to be a better person, go ahead, read something habang umuulan sa labas. Sit in bed, and get a reading light (para hindi ma-eye strain).

Create a masterpiece

If your idea of reading is boring, be creative! Build a plastic or wooden model. Tahiin yung damit na gusto mong i-alter or repurpose. Maggantsilyo or mag cross-stitch ng something na pang-display. Even better, make good use of surplus items in the house by recycling.

Crafting a project is a safe and healthy way to be productive of your time.

To make your project even more meaningful, create something that will make for a good conversation piece.

Cook a hot stew

Lomi kaya? Better yet, bulalo!

If you know how to cook these dishes, a rainy day is the best time to prepare them. Make your family—and yourself—happy! Have someone teach you how to cook these.

Sweat it out

A rainy day is not an excuse not to be fit and healthy. So habang umuulan sa labas, magpapawis ka! Magsayaw o mag-Zumba gamit ang mga online exercise and dance videos. Maganda ring mag-weights kung meron ka. Just make sure you are adequately stretched para hindi ma-injure ang muscles mo dahil sa lamig.

On the other hand, hindi kailangang gym or dance routine ang pagpapapawis mo. How about cleaning your house or room? Or, spend time playing with kids (if you have any).

Talk to someone

When you’re simply stuck at home on a rainy day, take the chance to talk with the people around you. Kumustahin mo sila. Magkwentuhan at magtawanan kayo. Have a good cry, or resolve any differences. Let people know how you feel or how you appreciate them.

Slow days like these are best spent with people who matter. Life is too short to be spent being angry or hateful towards someone! Make the most of the opportunity and make your life count.

Make a rainy day meaningful

Sulitin ang sandaling kasama mo sila, rainy day or not. Be productive, be creative.

Just for one day, lose the gadgets and connect to the people around you. Kausapin mo sila. Kumain kasama nila. Do things together. At the end of the day, you’ll be more thankful for the moments well-spent. Maniwala ka–you’ll end up being a better person in the process.
